Broadcast: 2 April 2016
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
In this segment Trevor’s international garden highlight is Seaforde Gardens, one of the more remarkable gardens you could ever visit. Located in Northern Ireland, Seaforde Gardens is a demesne, a piece of land situated alongside a 400-year-old manor in Country Down. The garden features a tropical butterfly house and a stunning walled garden.
- The Man Tree Fern (Dicksonia antarctica) grows together with a variety of rare plants collected in the Far East.
- The heart of the garden is a 40-year-old maze created using Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) hedges.
- The tropical butterfly house contains hundreds of free-flying exotic butterflies, as well as parrots, reptiles and other creatures.
- A visit to the gardens costs around $30AUD.
