Title: Citrus – Lemon, Grapefruits, Oranges
Broadcast: September 17th
Presenter: Melissa King
Mel shows us the benefits of a bountiful lemon crop, the stronger, larger grapefruit tree and the incredibly sweet orange tree.
- There are so many good reasons to grow citrus at home: lush evergreen foliage, beautiful blossoms and an abundance of fruit.
- A lemon tree is as Australian as a pair of thongs! If you grow a Eureka Lemon in the garden you’ll think you’ve struck gold. So bountiful and fruits all year round.
- If you’re tight on space you might want to grow the Meyer Lemon. This flowers and fruits virtually year round and grows to just 2-3 meters tall. You can even grow it in decorative pots.
- Grapefruits tend to be one of the larger growing citrus, which gets to height of 4-6 meters tall but you can manage their size with pruning. A strong, vigorous grower with a delicious fruit.
- On the other end of the scale are oranges. The Washington Navel produces a great fruit in winter and is incredibly sweet.
- If you’re a fan of marmalade, you might want to get some Seville Oranges in the ground. This plant also works well as a beautiful evergreen screen.
