Episode: 1
Title: Byford Glades Community Garden
Broadcast: August 19, 2017
Presenter: Nigel Ruck

Community gardens have been continuing to grow in popularity over the years, with new ones popping up all over the country. Nigel discovers Byford Glades Community Garden, bringing with him the ancient powers of seaweed.

  • Byford Glades Community Garden boasts a fantastic setup, with generously sized raised beds that help with drainage.
  • Looking at the soil here, you can tell it’s packed with nutrients, and is as fertile as ever. This is all thanks to compost, which is a critical part of growing your own produce.
  • Nigel shows you the amazing health benefits of seaweed for your plants, with a product called Seasol – a natural seaweed concentrate, that aids with seed germination, reducing planting and transplanting shock, as well as encouraging strong root development, and healthy plant growth.
  • Nigel speaks with Chris Marsh, President of Byford Glades, who explains the garden’s plans for future expansion, introducing new garden beds at the back of the garden, as well as installing a chicken coop, green house, and perhaps even some aquaponics.
