Title: Dorrington Garden
Broadcast: Nov 18th
Presenter: Melissa King

The right garden design can completely transform the look and the feel of a home and this beautiful 1920’s house has been given a fresh makeover, keeping its heritage in mind. The result is a stunning garden.

  • Mel speaks to garden designed Jim Fogarty on what the owners wanted from this space.
  • The front garden had a huge slope on it and it wasn’t really useable so part of the design idea was to level it all out.
  • An effort was made with the stonemasonry- the pebbles in the driveway are all laid by hand, the brick cobbles were manufactured by a brick company.
  • The house is 1920’s so everything added to the garden had to be council approved. A lot of planning went into it.
  • The colour scheme of the house was changed to incorporate the garden as well so it was a very integrated build process.
  • The plants create a little bit of a botanic garden feel so there’s a lot of texture and grasses.
  • The owners wanted to overhaul the run down 80’s garden but retain the beautiful old trees and enhance the natural style of the home and create a more usable space to sit and enjoy the garden.
  • It’s amazing how the perfect pallet of plants and the real attention to detail of the heritage and arts of the home have made a difference in this design and can really elevate your experience of being in the garden.
