Watercress
Story: Watercress
Episode: 12
Presenter: Neville Passmore
Air Date: 7th November 2020
Water cress is a low growing biennial with attractive shiny green foliage and a hot peppery flavour.
- Watercress is high in vitamin C and minerals, which makes it of great value when we need to build up our immunity.
- If you have a pond, the easiest way to grow watercress is by dropping it into a net pot and putting it out on the water.
- It can also be grown in the garden, a pot or a hanging basket.
- If you have fish in your pond, they will feed your water cress.
- In the garden, feed it regularly throughout the year with Seasol and PowerFeed.
- Cut off the flower buds as they emerge and prune your plant back hard in autumn or spring if it’s getting too large.
- Watercress can be added to salads, stir-fries or lightly cooked vegetables like mushrooms, asparagus or snow peas.
- It makes a great accompaniment to ham and bacon.
