Presenter: Sue McDougall
Air Date: 12th December 2020

An eclectic and delicious range of herbs are frequently used in Asian cuisine. Sue shares some of her favourites that are perfect for planting in summer.

  • Snake bean is a fast-growing climber that has evolved in tropical and subtropical areas.
  • It benefits from a small amount of nutrients added to the soil before planting.
  • The beans are enormous and taste great raw or cooked. A few plants should feed the family over summer.
  • Bitter gourd is also a climber with small cucumber shaped fruit that hang down. These should be harvested when they’re about 10-15cm long.
  • It’s hard to find coriander in summer because true coriander bolts to seed when it’s warm.
  • Perennial coriander is also known as sawtooth or saw leaf and has that familiar coriander flavour.
  • Pruning the flowers off, especially during summer, will encourage more leaves to grow.
