Neville introduces us to a few unique herbs that are sure to add a bit of Asian magic to your cooking.

  • Holy Basil or Tulsi basil is primarily cultivated as an essential ingredient in Pad Kra Pao, the famous stir-fried meal eaten at mid-day in Thailand.
  • Holy Basil is renowned for its religious and medicinal purposes. It is most commonly used in Thai cuisine and makes a delightful herbal tea.
  • Holy Basil thrives in a full sun position with moist, well-drained soil.
  • Laksa is a perennial herb similar to coriander but with a lemon flavoured after taste. It is widely used in Vietnamese cuisine and is an essential part of a spicy Laksa soup.
  • Laksa thrives in full sun or part shade position in the garden with consistently moist, well-drained soil.
  • Lemongrass is a fast-growing perennial that thrives in a full sun position with well-drained soil.
  • Lemongrass stalks are commonly used in East Asian cooking to add flavour to broths, soups and curries, with the white stem portion giving the richest flavour.
  • Lemongrass thrives in warm environments. It is drought tolerant and can be grown in the garden or in a pot.
