DIY projects are a great way to keep your gardening enthusiasm up. Bonnie shows us an easy way to add interest and colour to your garden by creating a mixed perennial planter.

  • The first step to making a mixed perennial planter is to decide on and figure out a colour palette.
  • The second step is to select a decent size pot to ensure all the plants grow happily together and have room for root development.
  • When planting, start by planting the tallest plants (e.g. grasses, lavenders, or Salvias) in your mixed garden planter. Then add your fillers (e.g. lavender, blueberry and daisy) and lastly, the spillers (e.g. ground covers, annual flowers, or low-growing shrubs).
  • For combination gardens use a Pots and Plant slow-release fertilizer, which will keep them fed for up to 8 months.
  • Water your combination garden every few days and keep it within a well-lit area.
