Story: Spring in the Garden - What to grow?

From seed to harvest, Sue shows us what herbs and veggies are great to grow in springtime.
- Seed raising trays can be used for the germination process. Alternatively, with scrap paper or newspaper you can make some recycled pots. (Or, have a look around, strawberry punnets or egg cartons are a good option too).
- Once filled with seed raising mix, lightly pack it down, cover the seed. Water in well and place in a position that is well lit and protected from extreme elements.
- Potted herbs are great starter plants, allowing gardeners to create a herb garden delivering bursts of fresh flavour all year round.
- Plant capsicum early, they take about 14 weeks to mature and the stronger and healthier the plant the better.
- Thyme is a great herb to plant at the edge of garden beds where the soil can get a bit dryer. All varieties of thyme do well in a full sun position.
- Mint is a versatile herb and there are so many different flavour profiles available.
- Every garden needs access to common mint, one plant is all you need. Be careful as it is prone to taking over, so contain it in some way, either in a large pot or container of any shape.
- Common mint is a high nectar-producing plant so is ideal for the bees and beneficial pollinators in the garden.
- The better the soil the more you can harvest. Before planting, add Troforte fertilizer, which contains beneficial microbes that work the soil and included nutrients making them more available to the plants.
