Growing native plant species in your own backyard is not only good for the environment but some species are edible too! Trevor teaches us how to sow native plants direct from seed.

  • Mr Fothergill’s has a great range of any type of seed you can imagine, including native Australia flora!
  • Planting native species in your own backyard can not only contribute to environmental biodiversity in your suburb but they are waterwise, drought tolerant and easy to grow.
  • Some species of native Australian plants are edible such as the Wild Tomato, the Kurrajong and the Mountain Currant.
  • Mr Fothergill’s has a wide range of native plant seeds including the rare Golden Everlasting.
  • You must also plant in the correct season and be mindful of the weather. E.g., sowing you seeds when rain is expected can reduce your need to water them and increase your chance of success.
  • To plant these beautiful native species in your own garden, simply scratch the soils surface to open it up a bit and then sow directly over the surface.
  • Water them in and let mother nature do her thing, this will be the easiest natural garden you have ever grown!
