Story: Trev’s Top Display Gardens at MIFGS
Episode: 7
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 29th April 2023

Trevor visits the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) and discusses his favourite gardens.

  • The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is considered to be one of the best on the planet and its unique location at Carlton Gardens alongside the world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building makes it one of the most spectacular.
  • This year, there are some stunning display gardens and for the first time in a few events, a truly international flavour with Irish garden designer Peter Donegan flying all the way from Dublin to create this remarkable garden.
  • Last year’s best in show winner ‘Christian Jenkins’ is back this year with this amazing garden. Called ‘Composition’, it’s a wellness garden, a place to explore one’s inner consciousness. With its grand entrance, serene Japanese trees, waterfall, sunken firepit and state of the art lighting, it’s certainly a showstopper.
  • ‘Lunaria Pods’, designed and constructed by Inge Jabara Landscapes, draws inspiration from the biennial plant, Lunaria biennis. The use of 3D printed concrete mixed in with this stunning display of plants have created such a delightful garden and living space.
  • The show is very much about innovation and the NGIV learning zone was created to entertain the whole family with veggie gardens and the shows first ever sustainable scarecrow competition. Scarecrows made with pre-used materials and there was some very clever innovation here all devised by school children.
