Neville shows us how to grow one of the most exotic and luxurious fruits right in your own home garden - the dragon fruit.
- Choose a sunny spot in a frost-free location, They need good drainage and thrive in compost enriched soils. A hydroponic bed would do fine. Don’t be afraid to feed your potted plants with citrus fertilisers every month from September to April.
- With such a heavy fruit, you need a strong supporting frame.
- You can have your first fruit forming as early as 2 years in. Strong treated pine posts with a tyre held in position by two pieces of Reo Steel, as shown in Simon’s farm, are remarkably effective.
- The flowers are normally pollinated by moths, which explains the large white flowers that open at night, but in the absence of these moths, you’ll need to get up early in the morning and ruffle the stamens in order to spread the pollen to the female flower parts.
