Bonnie’s house plants may have garnered a few pests, but there’s a simple chemical-free solution!

  • Have you noticed small little flies around your indoor plants? Do they appear more frequently after you water those plants? Does it seem like every time you kill one, there are five or more the next day? If you answered, yes, you probably have a problem with fungus gnats.
  • Fungus gnats are pesky little flies commonly found around indoor plants and bags of potting mix. They are black or dark grey, about 3mm long and thrive in moist conditions. They can also multiply rapidly (laying up to 300 eggs!) and can spread to nearby plants, where their larvae feed on the roots of plants.
  • Yates Gnat Barrer is made from natural pumice granules and provies an effective barrier against fungus gnats penetrating the surface of the potting mix where they can lay their eggs.
  • It’s multipurpose too - these granules also help reduce water loss from the surface of the potting mix, while retaining moisture for your plant to access when needed.
  • Simply apply on the granules to a depth of at least 3 cm on the entire surface of the potting mix!
