  Temperate types, resilient to cold winters
  Tropical types, thriving in hotter climates, both undergoing a dormant winter phase and flourishing in spring and early summer
• Spring is the optimal time for fertilizing, utilizing large pills of controlled-release fertilizers to sustain the plants throughout the warm months; these pills are conveniently inserted beneath the soil surface.
• To ensure vigorous growth, essential for optimal flower production, timely and proper feeding is crucial, enhancing the overall health and vitality of water lilies.
• When setting up a tropical water lily bowl, be sure to provide stability, algae control, and a suitable root run by surrounding the potted plant with a mix of crushed zeolite and river sand in a full-sun location; also consider adding small fish after a week to control mosquito larvae.
