Trevor recommends that growing your own herbs at home saves money and ensures freshness by choosing healthy starter plants, using premium potting mix, and rotating appropriately sized pots.

  • Growing your own herbs at home is an affordable way to save on your food bill and ensure access to the freshest produce.
  • For the best results, select starter plants that are lush, healthy, and free from dead leaves, with a strong root system featuring white, healthy roots.
  • Use a potting mix that meets Australian premium standards, featuring a red tick, which should be composted and nutrient-rich to support rapid plant growth.
  • The size of the pot determines how many plants you can grow, with a 30cm circumference around each plant being ideal. Plant at least 5cm below the rim and ensure proper watering to eliminate air pockets.
  • To maintain a continuous supply of fresh herbs, use two planters and rotate them so one can rest while the other is in use. This method ensures a steady supply of fresh herbs for your meals.
