Calinda gets ready to harvest her water chestnuts this autumn.

• Autumn is the time when water chestnuts are ready to harvest, and you can tell they are ready when the leaves turn brown.
  
  
• To harvest, simply wash away the dirt from the roots and pick out the chestnuts.
  
  
• Your first harvest may not be enough for a stir fry, but harvest and replant for next year will ensure that you will have a bounty for the dinner table.
