  • Dr Monica Gagliano from the University of Western Australia in conjunction with Professor Daniel Robert (University of Bristol in the United Kingdom) and Professor Stefano Mancuso (University of Florence) have discovered that the roots of young plants emit and react to particular sounds.
  • It has been confirmed that the young roots of the corn plant emit regular clicking noises.
  • The possible application of the research to real world problems could mean that by listening to plants scientists could detect future droughts and other natural events.
