Story Title: Fire Suppression
Date: 13th March 2010.
Presenter: Phillip Johnson
Phillip Johnson shows viewers ways they can participate in protecting their homes and suppress fire threats in their area.
Fire Suppression System
- Water stored on site in the event of a fire threat can be delivered at a rate of 380 litres a minute through sprinklers attached to dwellings.
- It's important to remember that clearing and removing your garden beyond necessity can create many other environmental and social problems such as land slip and removal of habitat. Communicate with your local council.
- Don't use plastic pipes above ground; they need to be 40-50cm below ground in compacted soil as a minimum. Copper and galvanized pipes are preferable above ground.
- Contact your local fire authority for assistance in planning and preparation.
