Episode: 7
Title: Latitude 23 Glasshouse
Broadcast: September 30th 2017
Presenter: Nigel Ruck

The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney is in the perfect setting on the edge of the harbor next to Sydney CBD and it’s a great place to visit and see some incredible plants.

  • Today Nige is visiting the Latitude 23 Glasshouses, which is home to some spectacular plants originating from between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and we’re lucky enough to be getting a personalized tour of the man behind the action, Dale Dixon.
  • These glasshouses really have some unusual plants in them. The plants people probably like to see the most are plants that have a look similar or have some sort of a relationship to an animal, such as the “Ant Plants”, from far north Queensland and Papua New Guinea, we also see the worlds smallest fig plant and some “man eating plants” that feast on organisms to get their nutrients.
  • We also get some hints from Dale on how we can keep tropical plants at our house in Australia, without moving to far north Queensland!
