Title: Kings Park Wildflowers
Broadcast: October 14th 2017
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Today Trevor shows us his favourite Botanical Garden on the West Coast: Kings Park Botanical Garden, which is considered to be one of the top four in the world.
- Unique display of West Australian native plants.
- South West corner of WA is a biodiversity hotspot.
- You will find 8,000 species of plants here, 4,000 of which are not found anywhere else in the world.
- Kings Park is four square kilometers.
- West Australian Black Kangaroo Paw is quite rare to come across and grows in full sun.
- Geralton Wax Shrubs come in many different forms now with colours ranging from white to pink to deep purple. They also need a bright sunny position, and you can extend their life and stimulate growth by trimming them back to a compact shape.
- The Brown Boronia is difficult to grow, and has a very interesting fragrance – for some people the perfume is overwhelming, whereas others can’t smell it at all. The plant prefers acidic soil.
