Waterwise gardening has become more important than ever. Sue shares a few tips and tricks that will help you save litres of water.
- Dig soil improver, homemade compost or aged manure into the soil. These will have a significant impact on your soil’s water-holding ability.
- Look for waterwise varieties. Nowadays, every plant label has waterwise information on it.
- Fine mulches tend to absorb water. Coarse, chunky mulches will allow water to get to the soil surface and ultimately the plants roots.
- Wetting agents are a must if you live in an area with water repellent soil. If you don’t, they’re still worth applying to ensure that no water is wasted.
- It may seem obvious but turning your irrigation off when it’s raining is an easy and quick way to save water.
- Holman Industries’ WX8-RS Wi-Fi irrigation controller allows you to access your irrigation from anywhere that the internet is available.
- Download the Holman Home app on your smartphone. Through the app, you can manage your watering schedule and turn your system on and off manually.
- The EVIE sensor automatically disables watering after 5mm of rain, so you save water. It resets to your pre-set watering days once the rain is finished.
