The Fox Tail Agave is an indestructible plant that’s had a massive impact on modern gardens, and the easiest way to grow it is from a plantlet.
A plantlet is a plant that emerges after germinating on either the flower stalk or the main growing stalk.
Plant each one in a small pot, using a top-quality potting mix. They like being slightly rootbound.
It’ll take 5-10 years for these plants to become large. If you’re looking for instant gratification, you should take a large cutting.
You’ll need a good saw and a wheelbarrow to catch the head when you cut it off. It’ll be extremely heavy, and you don’t want to have to carry it around.
When you take your cutting, you should make a small cut underneath before cutting on top to make sure the bark doesn’t tear as it falls.
Dig a planting hole straight into the existing soil. Put the cutting trunk first into the ground and fill it in around the outside.
These plants are tough and need very little attention. All you need to do is make sure they get plenty of sun and water and they’ll thrive.
