Gooseberry Hill is home to one of Western Australia’s very best rose gardens.
- Roses, the flower most often associated with love and romance, are thought to be very hard to grow and maintain, though this couldn’t be further from the truth.
- Patsy Durack is a rockstar in the world of roses, and knows exactly how to keep roses thriving and blooming.
- Patsy and her husband, Ian, moved into the property in 1988, and quickly demolished the garden. They built up the lawn by 15 feet, added the bloodstone walls and got to work planting the roses.
- It is important to constantly deadhead your roses to 40cm, mulch and fertiliser – fertilising every 6 weeks should work. You also want to do overhead watering.
- While black spots can be an issue, you can treat them with GOGO Juice, and they’ll be gone within a week.
- The different colours of roses are symbolic – red symbolises love and romance, pink represents gratitude and grace, orange stands for enthusiasm and passion, yellow symbolises friendship, and white represents innocence and purity.
- Patsy Durack’s Rose Garden is a paradise for rose lovers, and is open for the public to visit.
