Story: Family Gardening - Goodwood Garden Centre
Episode: 9
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 13th May

Trevor is in search of auspicious home plants in one of Singapore’s best botanical florists, Goodwood Garden Centre.

  • The best way to buy home plants is to buy them healthy and strong. The half-wilted plants may be cheaper, but you’ll spend much more time and money on them just trying to revive and rejuvenate them. Save yourself the trouble!
  • Marigolds are said to bring longevity, so positioning them outside your front door will welcome the essences of long life into your home. They will look good for a few months without changing and are a great decorative plant to buy without breaking the bank.
  • Flamingo Lilies are vibrant flowers that remove formaldehyde, xylene and ammonia from the air for a natural in-home purification. Their auspicious red and pink colour symbolises prosperity, and they are easy to care for.
  • The Chinese money plant is so hardy that western society dubbed it something far less pleasant - the devil’s ivy, as no one could kill it! Despite its ominous name, it symbolises wealth and prosperity and is another brilliant air-cleaner that can be easily hung in trellis baskets
  • Orchids symbolise youthful vitality, but they also have a hidden meaning - enhanced fertility. The dancing ladies orchid is said to be particularly good at this, and are important to have around when you’re on a luck streak!
