Trevor’s lawn and plants are looking a little lacklustre, with lawn pests wreaking havoc. He opens up his toolbox and this week, Yates Grub Kill comes to the rescue.
- Common lawn pests can be a real pain. Curl Grub, African Black Beetle larvae, Argentine Stem Weevil larvae, Billbug larvae and caterpillars including Lawn Armyworm, Black Cutworm and Sod Webworm can all cause damage to your plants. Often found feeding on decaying plant material or the live roots of a broad range of plants, plants can start to go backwards.
- What to look for? A common sign especially for potted plants, is that they appear to be wiling despite wetted soil – which could indicate the roots being completely eaten. Your lawn may suddenly have brown patches and you find that you can easily grab handfuls of it.
- Thoroughly aerate your soil and pick out any grubs you come across to minimize them. Reduce the amount of outdoor lights at night, as they can attract adult beetles. For a heavy infestation, a pest control is the way to go.
- Yates’ Grub Kill and Protect is suitable for all lawn types and offers a huge coverage. Giving up to a six month protection, the best time to apply is from mid-December when the grubs are most active. Evenly spread the granules over the affected area and lightly water it in. Delay mowing until 24 hours after application and remember not to apply when the soil is saturated with water, as adequate distribution of the product into the soil will not be achieved.
