Neville takes us through a quick and easy at-home solution for weed control in your garden beds.
- Tackle weeds without resorting to chemicals by utilizing a simple combination of newspaper, mulch, and a wheelbarrow filled halfway with water.
- Eliminate the need for pulling or hoeing weeds; instead, cover them with 6 to 8 pages of moistened newspaper.
- Soak the layered newspaper in the water-filled wheelbarrow to ensure it absorbs moisture thoroughly.
- Ensure proper coverage by overlapping the edges of the moistened newspaper and placing it up against the stems of your plants, the goal is to entirely deprive the weeds of essential light.
- Finally, add a layer of wood chips over the newspaper to enhance the visual appeal but also prevent the paper from blowing away when it dries.
- The absence of light prevents the quick germination of weed seeds, leading to their eventual demise, even for persistent varieties like couch and Kikuyu.
