Zeolite to Clear Algae
Story: Zeolite to Clear Algae – 1 Min Hacks
Episode: 6

Air Date: 6th April 2024
Neville takes one minute to show us how good zeolite is at clearing algae.
- Garden ponds often become green due to algae build-up, which can be undesirable.
- While fish and tadpoles may tolerate a green pond, it's typically not preferred by garden owners.
- Zeolite, a volcanic rock with absorbing properties, offers a chemical-free solution.
- Finely ground zeolite works by smothering algae and absorbing ammonia from aquatic animal excreta.
- For best results, distribute zeolite powder evenly over the pond, creating a cloud to coat algae on plants and surfaces, and apply daily until the water clears up.
- Cease feeding fish during the treatment period, as they may consume algae, counteracting the treatment - this is particularly important for Koi.
- If string algae persists after two weeks, possible reasons include insufficient zeolite usage, excessive fish population, or overfeeding.
- Zeolite build-up on the pond bottom can be stirred up to reactivate instead of adding more.
