Story: Plant Feature - Orchids
Episode: 8
Presenter: Nigel Ruck
Air Date: 20th April 2024
Nigel is at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, checking out some orchids.
- Orchids are the most popular flowering plants in the world, and the phalanopsis orchids are one of the longest blooming genrera, producing flowers that can last up to 6 months without dropping. They can even bloom 2 to 3 times a year once mature.
- Caring for orchids isn’t as hard as some think, make sure you water thoroughly every 10-14 days, but be careful that the plants don’t sit in water for any length of time to prevent root rot.
- Keep your orchids in a brightly lit, warm, position away from direct sun.
- The use of a liquid fertiliser at half strength every second watering will encourage your orchid to flower up the entire stem, and produce a wonderful display.
- Orchids make a great centre piece in the home or even a great gift for the flower lover.
- To get your very own plalanopsis in your favourite colour, make sure you visit the team from garden express.
