Hyacinths (Colllection & Vases)

Story: Garden Express: Hyacinths (Colllection & Vases)
Episode: 3
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 22 March 2025

Trevor shows us how to grow beautiful hyacinths at home with a simple vase setup.

  • Place charcoal in the bottom of a vase, add water (ensuring it doesn’t touch the bulb), and set the vase in a dark, cool, well-ventilated area like a pantry or cellar.
  • Check the water level regularly to ensure it stays just below the bulb, and adjust as necessary to avoid it touching or drying out the bulb.
  • Once the bulb shoots to about 50mm tall (in 10-12 weeks) and roots are visible, move the vase to a warmer spot (15-20°C) to encourage blooming, gradually introducing it to more light.
  • Visit Garden Express for great deals on hyacinth vase kits.
