Prepare your garden for a thriving winter crop with nutrient-rich soil, smart planting techniques.

  • After harvesting summer crops like pumpkins and tomatoes, rest the soil for a few weeks. Incorporate Dynamic Lifter to boost organic matter, soil carbon, water retention, and nutrient levels — great for long-term soil health.
  • Tailor your planting method to your soil type. In heavy soils, mound up to improve drainage; in sandy soils, plant into shallow bowls to help retain water. If your soil is mixed (like mine), mounding is best for winter rains.
  • Great time to plant a mix of seeds (like carrots) and starter pots from quality sources like Waldecks’ Renaissance Collection.
  • Water in your seedlings thoroughly with the hose to eliminate air pockets around roots. Follow up with a hand-water using Seasol to reduce transplant shock and give plants a gentle nutrient boost.
  • Apply PowerFeed liquid fertilizer weekly. It’s absorbed quickly through leaves and helps leafy crops thrive. Plus, it supports soil carbon and moisture retention — a win-win for soil and harvest quality.
