Native Pest Control

Winter is when many pests build up their base populations. Acting now prevents a tough-to-control infestation in spring.
- Always treat pests on a warm, dry day. Wet or overcast conditions reduce the effectiveness of most controls.
- A deep pool of beer lures slugs and snails to their doom—drunkenly diving in and drowning.
- These pests hide under leaves of brassicas (broccoli, kale, cabbage, etc.). Control early by spraying under leaves with vegetable oil (used or old oil works fine).
- For caterpillars, try natural products like Success or Dipel. Spray on dry days—caterpillars must ingest the treatment for it to work.
- Reduce insect problems with companion planting, mixed crops, and turning off outdoor lights at night. For more natural pest tips, visit our website!
