Szentendre’s Japanese Garden
Story: Throwback: Szentendre’s Japanese Garden
Episode: 10
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 24 October 2026
Just an hour from Budapest, the historic town of Szentendre is home to a stunning Japanese garden designed by Zoltan Dani.
- A tranquil 10-minute walk from the town centre, the garden features maples, cherry blossoms and peaceful water gardens.
- Inspired by gardens across Japan and China, Zoltan designed the space as a three-dimensional painting, carefully positioning every rock and tree to recreate nature’s beauty.
- Each season has its own character, from spring cherry blossoms and summer water features to autumn maples and winter pines.
- A central teahouse pavilion and strategically placed benches offer changing views, inviting visitors to pause and appreciate the garden from different perspectives.
- Though still maturing, this peaceful Japanese oasis is well worth visiting, particularly during autumn.
