They say when the going gets tough, the tough get shopping and if you throw into the mix our poor sandy soil and our harsh drying climate then a bit of retail therapy for the garden should bring you to Zanthorrea, where you can indulge your urge to shop and buy some seriously tough and sexy plants.
- Eremophilias, otherwise known as the Desert Fushia, are ridiculously tough and have exquisite flowers that seem to belie the harsh places they come from.
- Every gardener should put at least one or two trees into the mix, especially a true Aussie icon like the Coolibah tree. It has a stunning ghost gum trunk, positively ‘loves heat waves’ and only grows around five to seven metres.
- Groundcovers such as Grevilleas and Hemiandras can flower for ten months a year and thrive on as little to one watering a week.
