Both practical and durable, Gabion Rock Boxes make an excellent DIY task for your garden. They can be used to create a retaining wall, planting boxes, or a division feature, and require no assembly, making it extremely easy to create your own stunning feature.

  • Make sure you are happy with the position of your box before adding rocks, as you’ll find it difficult to move once they have been added. If you are creating a retaining wall, it is important to be sure that the ground is level.
  • At the top of the Gabion box, you’ll see a gap – this is where you add your pebbles. Simply pour the rocks in until you have filled the box to the brim. Stones in the range of 35-50mm will be a perfect fit for your box.
  • If you’re planning to use your box as a planter pot, start by lining the inside of the centre cavity with a breathable fabric. Then you can fill the box with potting mix, and you will have a modern take on a traditional planting pot.
  • If you’re looking for something a little bit different, take a look at Gabion cubes. By simply filling the cubes with stones and placing a block of wood on the top, you’ll have a stylish garden bench.
