Title: Weed Feed
Broadcast: October 20, 2018
Presenter: Nigel Ruck
Spring is a hugely important time for lawns, as they’re coming out of their winter dormancy and are about to explode with growth.
- Make sure to keep your lawn longer in winter, as this will improve photosynthesis and reduce weed seed germination. The longer grass creates more shade underneath. It is also important to hand weed your lawn – one year’s seed is seven year’s weed.
- Some classic lawn weeds include clover, bindii (jo-jo, Onehunga) and broadleaf weeds including capeweed, chickweed, creeping oxalis, cudweed, dandelion, dock, fleabane, lamb's tongue (plantain) and wireweed.
- It is important to be careful when selecting your lawn treatments, as many are not suited to buffalo lawns. Scotts Lawn Builder Weed, Feed & Green Up and Lawn Builder Buffalo Weed, Feed & Green Up contains the selective herbicides Bromoxynil and MCPA, so it can be safely used on all lawns types including Buffalo.
- The unique sources of nitrogen and iron are highly soluble and quickly absorbed to provide a rapid greening response. It is easy to apply – simply click on the hose and slide up the switch. Do not mow your lawn for seven days before or after application, and don’t spray it if there is rain scheduled.
