It takes just 16 mid-size trees to combat the average family’s annual CO2 emissions, and in today’s battle against climate change, planting more trees is more important than ever. But there’s a few things to consider before popping them into the grown.
- There’s an endless list to the benefits of growing trees both in your backyard and the neighbourhood: they act as an air filter, cleaning out the CO2 and providing oxygen; they cool the streets and your backyard; shade from trees slows water evaporation, helping save water; and they help prevent soil erosion.
- Autumn is the best time of year to establish trees and shrubs, particularly natives.
- When purchasing a tree, it’s important to remember that they have been grown in their pot, in a nursery, with lots of care, water and nutrients for the first year or so of their life. So, to get your tree off to the best start you need to give it everything it needs up-front.
- Consider the soil the tree is going into. If the quality is poor, it will need some help. Gypsum will improve the heavier, clay-based soils, while adding plenty of quality organic material will help with sandy soils.
- Troforte M Tree Planting tablets will prevent transplant shock and give your tree a huge boost, encouraging deep root growth ‐ which is great for a drought proof garden.
- Each tablet contains up to 24 strains of beneficial soil microbes, up to 60 minerals and slow release fertiliser to ensure young plants get the best start in life and established plants remain lush and healthy all year round.
- Troforte Tablets are aimed at anyone purchasing new plants and are easy to use. Just pop in the required number of tablets and you don’t have to worry about feeding your plants for 8 months.
- You can also add these tablets around newly planted trees that initially missed out on the boost, just pop a couple of tablets around the outside of the root system.
