Edible or Flowering plant of the week

Story: Edible or Flowering plant of the week
Episode: 14
Presenter: Neville Passmore
Air Date: 10th December 2022

Neville shares a fantastic way to grow your own herbs and vegetables inside with very little effort.

  • Mr. Forthergill’s hydroponic indoor gardens takes the work out of growing fresh produce.
  • The gardens have varying degrees of automation giving time-poor people fresh herbs and veg with very little effort.
  • Growing herbs and vegetables indoors removes the variables of temperature and weather typical of a given season, meaning you can grow whatever crops you would like, all-year round like tomatoes, basil, chillies and lettuce.
  • Growing indoors means no rain, hail, shady patches, droughts or flooding to ruin your bumper crop. The indoor gardens supply all the light, water and nutrients the plants need to produce perfect harvests every time.
  • Don’t you hate seeing healthy plant or a great crop of something you’ve been waiting for get destroyed by slugs, caterpillars, birds and rats? Hydroponic gardening brings the crop indoors, away from all those pests and lets the plants get on with growing your food in a protected area!
  • Indoor gardens use a fraction of the water used in an outdoor garden. Using wicking from an enclosed reservoir directly to the roots of the plant, you’ll be saving litres upon litres of precious water. Indoor gardens also use highly efficient LED lights, so you don’t have to worry about energy usage either.
  • Cooking fresh food for the family or even just for yourself can become a hassle when you need to go to the store for fresh herbs, or out into the garden with a torch to collect some fresh herbs.
