Episode: 2
Presenter: Nigel Ruck
Air Date: 12th August

Nigel experiments with the latest in seed sowing for easy veggie germination.

  • Seed packets have become so readily available across the country that you’d be hard pressed not to find seeds in local hardware stores and nurseries. Even the hugest plants start from a single seed, so it’s important to learn how to best germinate them.
  • A seed raising tray is the perfect way to start. Fill to about 15mm below the top with a good seed-raising soil mix and press it in. Water gently and allow to drain.
  • If you have large seeds place and space individually, smaller seeds can be sprinkled or placed in 2’s and 3’s. From sunflower seeds to snowpeas, down to corn and beans.
  • Seasol’s seed-raising and cutting mix is an ideal solution, with pine park and free-draining structure, perfect for seed germination and establishment for its shoots and roots. It also contains organic matter and Seasol Gold for strong roots.
  • The magic trick is to water gently with Seasol solution for a strong healthy root system. Cap your tray and watch it sprout!
