Heirloom Seeds

Story: Heirloom Seeds
Episode: 16
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Air Date: 18th November 2023

Trevor gets his hand on some old favourites from the Yates seed collection!

  • Yates has been helping, educating and inspiring Australian and New Zealand gardeners for 140 years. In the 1890s, Arthur Yates began selling a range of small packets of seeds to home gardeners, that were, for the first time, illustrated with images of the desired results.
  • To celebrate 140 years of gardening, Yates is releasing a new range of heirloom vegetable and flower seeds. These specially chosen plants have been grown and loved for generations (or sometimes centuries!) and will delight gardeners with their traditional flavours and vibrant colours.
  • The new Yates heirloom range includes dwarf and scarlet runner beans, dwarf peas, a rainbow carrot mix, Romanesco broccoli, savoy Verona purple cabbage, African horned cucumber, apple cucumber, French breakfast radish, colourful mixed beetroot, yellow crookneck squash, yellow pear and mixed heirloom tomatoes, cottage garden flowers and old-fashioned sweet peas.
  • These seeds will be available in various retail outlets and through the Yates online shop (Yates website). Fun fact – some of these seeds were included in our very first Yates Garden Guide in 1895!
