Growing Sweet Potatoes Indoors
Story: Growing Sweet Potatoes Indoors
Episode: 1
Presenter: Neville Passmore
Air Date: 2nd March 2024
Neville shows us how to grow an all-time favourite, the sweet potato, indoors.
- The sweet potato is a tropical plant that produces tubers and has less carbs than a regular potato, but can be cooked in as many ways as a starchy vegetable and even turned into savoury chips.
- You can start your own sweet potato plants by placing a tuber from the grocer in a tray of water indoors.
- Changing the water every week is a good idea and soon you will see roots and shoots emerging.
- In spring and early summer, you can cut these shoots off and propagate these in a glass of water in the kitchen.
- You can also plant the roots and in the warm seasons and these will grow as a ground cover in full sun or light shade, which can then be harvested after 7 to 9 months.
