Nigel shares some essential spring lawn care tips, from mowing and feeding to tackling curl grubs, compaction and fungal diseases.

• Basic lawn care – Regular mowing at the correct height, watering when needed and fertilising in spring, summer and autumn will help keep your lawn healthy and looking its best.
• Watch for pests – Curl grubs, including African Black Beetle and Argentinian Scarab larvae, feed on grass roots and can cause brown, dead patches. Increased bird activity can also be a tell-tale sign.
• Beat compaction – Heavy use can compact the soil, restricting water, oxygen and nutrients. Aerating or coring the lawn, followed by top dressing, fertilising and watering, can help restore healthy soil.
• Spot fungal disease – Yellow, white or brown patches, powdery growth, thinning turf or wet and slimy areas can indicate fungal disease. Common lawn diseases include winter fusarium, dollar spot, brown patch, anthracnose and helminthosporium.
• Fungal disease control – Yates Lawn Disease Fungicide can be used on all lawns when disease appears or preventatively when conditions are warm, wet and humid. Apply with a hand-held sprayer and keep off the lawn until completely dry.
