Inland Everlastings Trail

Episode: 2
Title: Inland Everlastings Trail
Broadcast: 12th September 2015
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

This story will highlight the town of Mullewa, home to one of the state’s best wildflower displays, about an hour east of Geraldton.

  • Home to a stunning native, the wreath flower (Leschenaultia macrantha).
  • Apart from the wreath flower, Mullewa is awash with various wildflowers especially carpets of everlastings through the winter and early spring months.
  • The town has quite some unique and amazing architecture all thanks to Monsignor Hawes, a local priest whose talents as an architect have left a legacy. It is a great spot with the sea of colour on display now set against rich red soil and brilliant blue skies but it’s aboriginal meaning place of fog suggests a mid-morning stroll is likely to provide better views of the incredible terrain.
  • The Chapman Valley Regional Park has some 300 different species of flora and the best time of the year to discover this part of the world is spring.
  • The area between Nanson and Yuna is where you will find some of the best wildflower shows and you can also discover some real history with the gorgeous stone churches.
  • Not far down the road is the simply delicious Burnt Barrel with its world-class smoked meats and locally brewed cider and beer which is a brilliant lunch. A great place to take in the view across the valley is Mills Point Lookout.
