Title: Colourful Climbers
Broadcast: 13 September
Presenter: Mel
Seeing a magnificent climbing plant in full bloom makes you think about the value of climbers for creating vertical colour, living walls or a green screen in the garden.
- The Purple Coral Pea or Hardenbergia is an Australian native and it’s smothered in gorgeous purple flowers through winter and spring when the garden needs a colour lift. There are pink and white varieties too.
- The Chinese Star Jasmine is a classic beauty with deep evergreen foliage and pure white flowers that appear from mid spring onwards and have a jasmine like fragrance.
- The Yellow Jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) is evergreen, fast growing, long flowering and boasts bright yellow funnel shaped flowers.
- To create a living wall, try out the Creeping Fig. It’s a vigorous climber that attaches itself to fences and walls. The Foliage is really attractive – particularly the juvenile leaves – and it quickly creates a beautiful evergreen cover.
