Zealong Tea Plantation
Title: Zealong Tea Plantation
Broadcast: 18th October
You’d be forgiven for thinking that this is somewhere on the sub continent, rows of tea bushes as far as the eye can see.
- The Zealong Tea Plantation of the Waikato Region in the heart of the North Island is the only Tea Plantation in New Zealand.
- Zealong is a fully fledged tea estate, producing a number of teas over 40 hectares and even has its own restaurant where visitors can brush up on their tea education and enjoy a luxurious high tea.
- This all began with 1500 Taiwabese tea seedlings in the mid 1990’s after the migrant Tzu Chen noticed how well camellias grew in the region.
- Zealong’s mission really is all about informing visitors about the ceremony attached to getting the most out of a cup of tea. It’s not a beverage to simply quench a thirst, but a taste experience to be savored and relished.
