Feeding Your Soil
Story Title: Feeding Your Soil
Episode: Seven
Broadcast Date: 5th October 2013
Presenter: Kim Syrus
The warm weather is sending a message to all our plants to get growing. And right now most of them are powering away, however you might have a few slow ones in the garden or in pots that need a little coaxing. Kim has some top tips to help the plants in your garden that aren't thriving
Starting From The Ground Up
- As plants grow and potting mix ages, the media looses much of its zing and it is vital that nutrients are added regularly to keep your plants healthy
- A slow release fertiliser is a great way of delivering nutrients to your plants and it will certainly give the plants a lift but its really important to look after the microbial life in the soil as well
- Using a slow release fertiliser that contains beneficial microbes including fungi will help to break down the natural minerals and attach them to plant roots. This will revive even the most tired potting mix and one application lasts 3 to 4 months
- Don't feel that the fertiliser is restricted to your tired pots, spread it around the garden for great results
