Yokine Reticulation

Story Title: Yokine Reticulation
Episode 5:
WA's Great Gardens
Date: 17 October 2010
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane

Part of a low maintenance waterwise courtyard requires having the right reticulation system that is both practical to use and most important of all, keep stunning plants alive.

Trevor's Tips and Facts

  • The team at The Watershed Water Systems know what set-up works best for each project and can design and supply any reticulation system.
  • We have used the reliable Galcon 9001 controller, which fits directly on to the tap.
  • The Galcon controller can be set to comply with any Water Corporation restrictions and will work for a season on one 9v battery.
  • To comply with Irrigation Australia's Waterwise specifications for a drip system, we attached a 120 mesh filter after the controller/valve, followed by an automatic pressure-regulating valve to ensure that the system works at optimal pressure and is never over-pressurised.
  • The garden beds are watered using Netafim Landline (formerly known as Miniscape) at 0.3m row and 0.3m drip stations appropriate to higher density plantings.
  •  A vacuum breaker is to be installed in a valve box. This allows air to enter the lines on shut-down, as water runs out, if air cannot get in by means of a vacuum breaker, it will find its way in through drippers which can draw in dirt at the same time and clog emitters.
