Silver Smellies
Story Title: Silver Smellies
Episode 5: WA's Great Gardens
Date: 31 October 2010
Presenter: Darren Seinor
One of the most important things to consider when choosing plants for a sensory garden is to ensure the plants play on the senses, particularly scent, and texture.
Darren's Tips and Facts
- To add a dimension of foliage and colour we've chosen a variety of plants of Silver Hats from the Swan Valley Nursery range.
- Succulents and shrubs with a variety of different foliage and flowers.
- The two features of these plants are their ability to last in tough conditions and their beautiful silver foliate, look for the Silver Hat range at your local garden centre.
- We've also chosen Lavenders from Swan Valley Nursery, as their soft fragrant foliage and massed flower display, are an essential inclusion for any sensory garden.
- Lavenders are incredibly tough plants, ideally suited to our local conditions and are real water misers. We are planting these close to the edge of the garden so the foliage will be brushed against, releasing that iconic lavender scent.
- Lavenders not only look great, that wonderful perfume has a well known soothing quality, so they're ideal calming agent for a bustling primary school, we might even plant some outside the headmaster's office. Look out for these winners in your local garden centre.
