Watering Days
Story Title: Watering Days
Episode 5: WA's Great Gardens
Date: 31 October 2010
Presenter: Chris Ferreira
Despite having recorded the second driest winter on record we have yet again managed to avoid really drastic water restrictions. However, we still have to water correctly and adjust to a new one day watering roster, Chris shows us how.
Chris's Tips and Facts
- The Minister for Water has announced a one day a week sprinkler roster which started October 1st 2010 and goes until the end of November 2010. The one-day roster is for Perth, the South West and Lower Great Southern.
- Bore owners are still permitted three rostered days.
- The 1-day per week sprinkler roster will save up to three billion litres of water (enough to fill over 1300 Olympic swimming pools).
- Sprinklers can be used once on your rostered day either before 9am or after 6pm.
- Hand watering is still permitted outside of your watering day.
- Check the Water Corporationwebsite for your watering day. You can plug in your postcode, and your house number and it will tell you what day.
- If you notice someone watering on more than one of their watering days contact the Waterwise Helpline on 13 10 39.
- If you are caught by a Water Corporation Monitoring Officer you will receive a $100 fine.
- Don't overwater on your rostered day, it is actually a waste.
- Water efficiently (water the roots of plants; make sure your sprinklers are watering your garden and not the road; check your irrigation system is working correctly)
