When Dan Gayfer Design was employed to transform the back garden of his home in Brighton, the existing garden gave the family no reason to go outside. And for a family who loves to entertain with four active young girls, something definitely needed to be done.

• This family had quite an extensive wishlist from an outdoor entertaining area to a lap pool and not only has Dan delivered all of the things that they wanted, he has extended the living areas of the home and changed the way this family lives.

• Black may not be the first choice for many or an obvious one but it is the perfect choice for this garden as the dark body of water adds real depth to the garden and along with a restrained material selection, it creates an elegant yet contemporary palette.
• The layout and function of each space has been so carefully placed that there is an easy flow and a feeling of space and calm.
• Thoughtful design can be the difference between a garden that is seen but never used or like this home, one that is cherished by its owners.
