Spring is all about getting creative in the garden and Bonnie shares her latest DIY planting project that the kids will just love!
- To begin, you will need a hanging basket with a coconut fibre liner, some mesh, wire cutters and a selection of succulents.
- Echeverias are a great option for the top of our basket as they have a nice mounding growth habit.
- For the base of the basket, use a trailing succulent as it will resemble the tentacles of a jellyfish.
- Fill the basket with Osmocote Cacti and Succulent Premium potting mix. This mix has been specially formulated. Hence, is free draining with grit that allows excess water to drain away.
- This potting mix has boosted calcium which supports nutrient uptake and builds stronger plant cells, as well as potassium which helps support steady growth.
- Plant the trailing succulent (e.g String of Pearls) into the basket and secure it with a mesh or wire net.
- Ensure the mesh/net has a small hole cut out for our plant to poke through.
- Before inverting the Jellyfish, add Osmocote controlled-release fertilizer (this feeds for 6 months) and then cover with a coconut mesh for extra soil protection.
- Carefully flipping the basket over, start cutting small planting holes through the coconut fibre and plant the remaining succulents.
- Once the Jellyfish planter is complete, fertilise the top succulents.
